This past weekend we took Kensley on her first vacation and what better place is there than San Francisco? With the Giants games, loads of shopping, plenty of fabulous restaurants (Fino's being one), staying at the Westin St. Francis, and the beautiful views of the bay....it's just all wrapped into one great city. We drove since it's only about 4.5 hours away and Kensley is just like the dogs when it comes to traveling in the car...she falls asleep as soon as we hit the road. Our car was loaded down with mostly her stuff and we realized traveling will never be as simple as it use to be with just Matt and me. We packed her own bag full of clothes and sleepwear, but you can't just bring one outfit and one pj per day because of the chance she might spit up or have an incredibly messy poop explosion (and I'm not exaggerating). Plus of course plenty of bibs and burp cloths, diapers and wipes, blankets, stroller and car seat, her playard to sleep in, toys and books. I also packed her little bathtub and towel because for the past month we have had her on a nightly routine of bath, then feeding, and bed right after that which has worked out perfectly for a long night sleep. I also packed her mini swing but we ended up not using it so now I know for future trips.
Matt's parents met us there and they were of course thrilled to see Kensley! They brought even more books to read, since she will be the smartest girl ever, and some new cute outfits. On Friday Matt and his dad went to the baseball game while us girls walked around and shopped. On Saturday we woke up and all had breakfast at this cute little cafe and the food was delicious. After that Matt and I went to the game and left Kensley with grandma and grandpa, it was our first time being without her but we managed to do just fine (with a couple phone calls to check in of course). After the game we all walked around union square and shopped a little more then had dinner at Fino's, an authentic Italian restaurant with an amazing menu and wine list. Finally, on Sunday we packed our car up to leave and isn't it funny how there always seems to be a lot more stuff on the way home from vacations? It's always packed up nice before and then after things just don't fit the way they did.
On our way home we stopped by my parents house to visit for a couple of hours. They recently moved into a house on 8 acres of land so it was our first time seeing the place. The house is beautiful and the land perfect for their plans to bring their horse home instead of paying for boarding. Matthew and Abby seemed to absolutely love the land, they got on their bikes and rode all around the grassy field. It was great to see them enjoy the outdoors a little more. Kensley also received another gift this weekend, a pair of John Deere socks from my family so she can wear them while on the farm land, it was a cute idea. After we had lunch we headed home and once again she fell asleep during the drive and I think I may have dosed off a few times as well. Overall it was a great first vacation for her and we will be able to tell her the stories when she is older.
